Eyk was raised in and around Berlin, Germany. During socialist rule, the artistic environment in schools was rather limited, so at home his parents tried to encouraged drawing as well as painting in oil and tempera early on. He also did a lot of outdoor photography in the country-side.
The fall of the wall lead to new freedoms, democratically and creatively. A show of Salvatore Dali's nearly complete body of work at the Zitadelle in Berlin was especially impressive. Eventually Eyk made Chapleau in Northern Ontario his home. He got involved in wildlife art and participated in several shows across Ontario, including Buckhorn Wildlife Art Festival and McMichael Fall Fair. The North continues to be an inspiration for his paintings. |
